BRIEF.
I wanted to undertake a short creative and explorative project to collaborate with a discipline that I have much respect for, though little experience in.
The aim was to produce a 3D animated short that celebrated the creative endeavours of the year and reflect on my spirit and approach to design.
SOLUTION.
To achieve this, I wanted to collaborate with a talented 3D designer to create a playful, multidimensional piece that would look interesting from all angles, but only legible from one.
This is symbolic of how a lot can go into the design process that, when it all comes together, forms something tangible.
RESULT.
The result is a moving logo sculpture that exists as an art installation piece in a gallery space.
The individual moving pieces represent the constant motion of the design process, finally resting to show the end product: the GDS logo.
OBSERVATION.
I wanted to create a space for the logo sculpture to exhibit as if featured in a contemporary modern art gallery.
I wanted it to feel like the sculpture is being observed so we included silhouette figures which also give the piece a sense of scale and realism.
COLLABORATION.
To create this piece I collaborated with Hugh G, a 3D artist, who used my sketches to model the sculpture.
I didn't want to direct the 3D artist too much initially as I wanted them to have their own take and explore their own implementation.
After the initial build, we collaborated on colours, textures, how it would work and which angles to capture for the motion sequence. Together we developed a piece that covered all aspects of the brief.

Tho short, this was an amazing experience for me to test my skill working collaboratively and giving creative direction on a 3D project.
I would very much look to do more work like this in future.
